i made these two costumes for some friends back in october, but never blogged about them. sadly i was so busy getting them ready on top of work etc. that i didn't take very good pictures. i don't have a picture of carl and hannah wearing them either...i'll have to track down a copy. i got most of my help from Kay Dee's costuming page. she's insanely detailed and a great resource for Star Wars costumes. thankfully she had made both Leia's Ceremonial Gown and Han's costume which doesn't change a whole lot throughout the trilogy. these are the patterns i used for the basic foundations of the costumes:
i had to raise the waistline a bit on the dress, lower the neckline and add the big cape sleeves. the dress is matte poly chiffon with sheer chiffon for the sleeves. i used lightweight silver vinyl for leia's belt. han's shirt is woven cotton (apparently there's some debate in the costuming world as to whether the shirt is a knit or woven) and the vest is cotton duck. i made a mandarin collar for the shirt and added all the pockets and ammo sheathes onto the vest as well as shortened it. for han's pants i used stitch witchery to stick grosgrain stripes onto a pair of dickies. all in all i think they capture the essence of the movie costumes pretty well.

I love these costumes! One of these years I'm going to be making some adult-size Star Wars outfits and I'll definitely be coming to you for advice!
